Teacher Workshop

POST-NEWS KIDS CARE

Is a unique curriculum customized to teach children about community service, philanthropy, compassion, responsibility and most importantly helps them to learn that they’re never too young to make a difference.

This service learning program builds upon children’s inherent caring and concern for others while teaching important life skills in addition to reinforcing reading, writing and math comprehension. Because this service learning curriculum is tied to newspapers, it explores real world subject matter and is designed to help youth investigate issues and take action to promote positive change in their own community. Kids will discover how they can give of their TIME, TALENT or TREASURE to make the world a better place.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Kids Care is a free program offered to all Colorado teachers and includes a six-week delivery of 15 Sunday, 30 Tuesday Denver Posts and 30 Thursday Rocky Mountain News.
  • Curriculum addresses Colorado Model Content standards in reading, writing and math, encourages personal reflection with journal activities, and contains resource information and project ideas. Available at Elementary, Middle and High School levels.
  • A brand new Early Elementary curriculum designed for 1st through 3rd grade students and a revised Elementary curriculum with new lessons and activities.
In addition, participating classrooms have the opportunity to apply for a $500 grant to support a volunteer, community service and/or fundraising project. Each month’s grant recipient will be featured in the newspaper. For more information go to Project Grants & Proposal Form.
